Ready Steady Go – Happy New Year

Chorus rehearsals restart on Tuesday 9th January.

This is just the beginning of a very exciting time preparing for Convention in May.  We are lucky to have secured coaching from some very
accomplished barbershop coaches in the coming weeks to work alongside our Musical Director Graham.

Paul Davies will join us for an evening on 16 January to work on our choreography in 'Joint is Jumping'. Paul is renowned for being one of the most successful barbershop arrangers in the UK. He is the founder of Cambridge Chord Company, a men’s chorus, and took them to several gold medals in British and European contests, as well as picking up the Pavarotti Choir of the World trophy at Llangollen Eisteddfod.

David Sangster will be our resident coach for the Rhapsody weekend retreat on 17-18 February. We’ve enjoyed several coaching weekends with David in the past. David has been Musical Director of the Region 31 Champion Chorus, Forth Valley, since 2005 and has competed  with them in the Sweet Adelines International Chorus competition.

Since we all enjoyed the coaching day with Sandra Lea-Riley back in November, we’ve managed to secure another date with her on 21 April, so please save the date. That’s only 3 weeks before competition so Graham is hoping for a full turnout please.

So, busy times ahead, but be assured, it will be fun and absolutely worth it when we pick up a medal at the Sage in May!

Rhapsody numbers increasing

Posted on: November 8, 2017 9:29 am

Thanks to our recent 4 week Acapella course Rhapsody chorus now has no fewer than 7 new members.

This brings the total membership to 39, which is a record number since Rhapsody's inception in 2008.

The  newbies, pictured here, have settled in really well and are already tackling the new choreography for next year's convention.

So welcome on board ladies, we hope you'll have a long and rewarding time with the chorus.

Naturally our Musical Director Graham is delighted and is having to source new risers to accommodate everyone!

Most improved chorus award – Region 31 Annual Convention

The battle of the Quaich!

Rhapsody is delighted to have been awarded the 'Most improved Chorus' award, jointly with the No Borders Show Chorus, at this year's Sweet Adelines Region 31 annual convention at the fabulous Sage in Gateshead. Gaining an extra 46 points and scoring their highest overall score to date.

Not only were they in a new category - mid sized, but it was their Director, Graham Davies' first Sweet Adelines convention.  He praised the chorus afterwards saying  'Thank you for putting your trust in me and for giving me an overwhelming feeling of pride when standing in front of you on stage. You were awesome! Bottle this feeling!'

They brought home a lovely Scottish Quaich! - No I didn't know what it was either! See below.
