Rhapsody Chorus is 10 years old this month.
In 2008 a handful of forward thinking women decided that they wanted to belong to a chorus that was ambitious, keen to compete at a high level, whilst, at the same, time promoting friendship and support amongst its members.
Rhapsody chorus was born.
Initially we were known as the 'Key Note' chorus, but the members were asked to come up with alternative names and a vote was held. Rhapsody was the most popular suggestion.
Many of our existing members were in the original line up. To name a few; Sharyn, Helen, Ally, June W, Lucy, Fiona, Anna R, Barbara, Margaret, Kirsty, Christine S, Shirley, Tricia, Debbie J, Anne and Debbie H. June C and Christine T joined very soon afterwards. (Apologies if I have missed anyone out!). We've supported everyone through good and bad times.
Our first Director was Ian Russell, who we recruited in August 208. He agreed to take us up to our first convention at The Sage in May 2009 - See the photograph below. We came 14th out of 20 with a score of 466.
Following convention, Helen was a popular choice to be our next Musical Director, and she did a fantastic job. In 2016 we won the Small Chorus Gold medal under her direction.
Helen stepped down soon afterwards, due to other commitments, but remains a very valued member.
Graham Davies was recruited to replace Helen in 2017, with Sharyn as his assistant. Under Graham, we are continuing to improve and aim for more success.
We now have 42 members, so we have more than doubled in size. We all love Rhapsody and will be celebrating our anniversary with a meal on Saturday. I'm sure it will be a memorable evening with lots of singing! We can't help ourselves.
